Term 3 2013

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students, Wow! Term 3 already. A big thank you to Mrs Arnold for her work in room 5. The children did some wonderful narratives and wind power studies. This is shaping up to be a BIG term. We are beginning with poetry and creating a diorama of a cat lurking in the bushes. We have begun by painting the inside of our boxes to create the background... the children have done a wonderful job. Next we'll tackle making a cat and hanging stars. This is talent quest term. We will do a class item and I am encouraging the children to make up singing or dancing groups, recite dramatic poems or play musical instruments. We are also doing "Hamburger Homework." To encourage children to work independently they can earn ingredients each week towards creating a hamburger on the last day of term. Each child will earn ingredients, one each week, by completing homework. Week one, a serviette to wrap the burger in, week 2 is a bun, and so on. I'm really enjoying being back with such a hardworking, polite and happy group of children. :)

Dear room 5😃

Hello from Australia, We had a great trip on the plane. At the moment we are in Kalbarri. Tomorrow we are off to a parrot zoo, then we want to go abseiling in a gorge! The house we stayed in in the outback was down a red dirt road about 3km long. Kangaroos roam right up to the house and occasionally get hit by cars. We passed lots on the side of the road. Tonight three kangaroos were less than 3 metres away. As we travel higher we see more and more people swimming in the Indian Ocean. Huge ships waited in the channel outside Geraldton trying to unload their iron ore. One thing from history we saw today was a convict station. People sent from Australia for small crimes were sent here and forced to work for nothing! One weird animal we have seen wandering around are echidna. They are weird little creatures with spikes all over that come out at night. Should I mention that ants and spiders are huge over here? Photographs next time. From Mrs Gibbs

Speeches

Congratulations to all the children who delivered their speeches this week. We heard some excellent persuasive speeches with sound reasoning. Martin delivered his speech to our Super Hero assembly on Friday. Well done to Kezia and Chiane who will compete in the school competition. Good luck! I wish you all well as I head off to Australia. Mrs Arnold is looking forward to teaching Fantastic 5!

Scholastic prizes

Well done room 5. Earlier this year we all entered a crossword competition through scholastic books. Having waited and waited for the results we finally heard that Haley had won a prize. As a result all our class received a book and Mrs Gibbs was awarded a voucher. Well done Hayley!

Room 7 has focussed on science experiments with thermometers, toys and solar ovens and room 5 has looked at 2 sun legends and has created a multimedia display of the sun. Look at our work!
